While the media increasingly talks about the need for a Dutch cloud – also called 'Cloud Kootwijk' – the Dutch hosting provider mijn.host launches its new public cloud platform. With this, the company responds to the growing demand for Dutch solutions for data sovereignty.
The new public cloud platform was launched on April 7 and is hosted exclusively in data centers in the Netherlands. The infrastructure is fully sovereign and complies with both European and Dutch legislation. “We increasingly heard the call for a Dutch cloud solution – a 'Cloud Kootwijk'”, says founder Marijn Vlug of my.host“We decided not to wait for that, but to start this ourselves.”
The platform is built on the open-source system Apache CloudStack™. This makes mijn.host the first company in the Netherlands to use this technology as a public cloud platform with an exclusively Dutch infrastructure.
'European Alternatives' well attended
Due to increasing international uncertainty, companies are looking en masse to leave American providers. Traffic on websites such as European Alternatives has increased more than twentyfold. “There is clearly a shift in the market. Due to increasing geopolitical tensions, companies are looking for alternatives within Europe and the Netherlands. We now offer a solution for that.”
The public cloud of mijn.host is designed with data sovereignty as a starting point. All data remains in the Netherlands and falls entirely under Dutch and European legislation and the cloud runs entirely on green energy. “Companies increasingly need transparency and control over where their data is and who has access to it,” says Vlug. “With our infrastructure we can guarantee that certainty. Everything is in the Netherlands. No foreign legislation, no unclear data flows - everything stays here.”

Although American hyperscalers currently offer a broader range of functionalities, Europe currently lacks a fully sovereign alternative with a comparable offering. The new cloud platform of mijn.host takes a first step in that direction and will expand further in the coming period. "In the coming months, we will further expand the cloud platform with, among other things, object storage and managed Kubernetes," says Vlug.
Since its founding in 2016, mijn.host has developed into a well-known Dutch hosting provider with experience in web hosting, domain registrations, servers and cloud services. More than 25.000 customers now use mijn.host's services and the company was recently rated as the fastest hosting provider.
Sovereign Public Cloud
With the introduction of the sovereign public cloud, mijn.host is responding to the growing demand for secure, sustainable and independent digital infrastructure in the Netherlands. The choice for Apache CloudStack™ underlines this open and flexible approach. “The demand for Dutch cloud solutions is growing, and with this platform we are responding to that today”, concludes Vlug.
