Ikea closes service center Rostock

workloadIkea plans to close its service center in Rostock by September 30, 2026. The location has been operating since 2006 and serves customers throughout Germany. The closure will cost 279 employees their jobs, according to Callcenter Profi.

The staff has already been informed about the plans and the management and the Betriebsrat are negotiating a social plan.

According to Ikea, the closure is part of an organizational restructuring of customer service. The company wants to adjust structures and make processes more efficient. The company initially did not provide information about which locations or departments will take over Rostock's tasks in the future.

The German trade union Verdi calls the measure socially unacceptable and criticizes the communication with the workforce. According to the employee representatives, the information about the closure plans was provided at very short notice. Verdi demands a comprehensive social plan and future prospects for the employees.
