Airline Qantas has confirmed that data from 5,7 million customers was stolen in a recent cyber attackThe data breach occurred through a compromised IT system containing various customer data.

Sources indicate that the incident involved a third-party customer service platform used by one of Qantas's offshore call centers in the Philippines. Qantas has not disclosed which platform was attacked in this incident. The airline is believed to be using Salesforce and Genesys.

According to CEO Vanessa Hudson, no evidence has yet been found that the stolen data has already appeared on the dark web, but the company continues to closely monitor the situation. Forensic research shows that the leaked data includes names, email addresses, and frequent flyer numbers of 4 million customers. In 1,7 million cases, address information, date of birth, phone number, gender, and meal preferences were also exposed.

Qantas emphasizes that no credit card details, passwords, PINs, or passport information were compromised. The company says it is actively contacting affected customers and offering assistance, including access to identification and security services. However, many customers feel vulnerable and uninformed. Some have since reported being contacted by scammers. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is conducting a criminal investigation. In response to the incident, Qantas immediately tightened its security measures. (Qantas, The Register)
