Bunq is conducting an in-depth investigation into (former) employees who have been guilty of 'account snooping'. This was reported by NRC following a court hearing in Alkmaar in the case between bunq CEO Ali Niknam and his former personal assistant.
The account snooping recently came to light during a “broad internal investigation” within bunq into the accounts that (former) employees have viewed, Niknam's lawyer said during the hearing. Bunq started this investigation after NRC revealed in June this year that bunq employees secretly looked into customer accounts, while this was not necessary for their work. This was not actively checked at bunq for years.
Last week, Minister Eelco Heinen (Finance, VVD) stated that he assumes that bunq will “investigate the account snooping to the bottom and take action if necessary,” the minister wrote in response to Parliamentary questions. “Bank details contain a lot of personal information about customers. Banks must handle this very carefully.” (NRC)
