The Do Not Call Register is a register that existed in the Netherlands between 2011 and 2021. Many countries have a don't call document-list.
The aim of the register was to reduce people's irritation about unsolicited data telemarketing. Consumers who did not want to receive unsolicited calls could enter their telephone number in the register. Companies and organizations were obliged to first check whether the number was in the Do Not Call Register before calling.
The Do Not Call Register has been discontinued as of July 1, 2021 following a change in the telecom law. There will be new rules for this on July 1, 2021 telemarketing introduced that made the register redundant.
According to the new rules, companies or organizations (including charities) are no longer allowed to make 'cold' calls to consumers, sole proprietorships, a general partnership, or a partnership. They are only allowed to call if prior permission has been given or if the person already has customer is.
Anyone who does receive a call can use it during such a conversation Right to Resistance. The calling organization must then delete the telephone details of the called person from its own files.
